Global & Local Deaf History
[Article: Introduction | Discussion ]
The Deaf community has a rich and long history. Much of its history has been captured by film and literature as well as telling the next generation of Deaf people of their heritage. The Deaf community is bound by its shared history, often growing up together in the same schools for the Deaf and local communities.
One such famous Deaf community of all time is Martha's Vineyard, off the Eastern Coast of the USA (Maine or Massachuetts?). The legacy of this island's Deaf history is stil preserved today by some of the older hearing residents who still live on the island and still remember ASL.
