Trauma, particularly head trauma, such as that experienced in a motor accident, can cause deafness.
Common traumatic causes of deafness include:
- Traumatic perforation of the eardrum
- Skull fracture (temporal bone)
- Acoustic trauma
- Barotrauma (differences in pressure)
