Infection causing a high fever is a common cause of deafness, particularly in pregnant women or young children.

Infections causing deafness include:

  • Meningitis
  • Mumps
  • Measles
  • Ear infection (otitis media)
  • Scarlet fever
  • Glandular Fever (mononucleosis)
